10 Things I Wish Non-CrossFit Girls Knew

Whenever I ask all of my female friends to come with me to a CrossFit class, they usually just look at me and laughs little and say “yea right”. I usually hear a few different comments like “I don’t want to lift those heavy weights”, “it looks way too intimidating”, “I’m so out of shape”, and “I would feel out of place”.

It probably doesn’t help that the women they see doing CrossFit are all muscular and jacked up according to the usual Google search. It puts out a stereotypical image that most women can’t get past. My hope is that most women will learn to get past this and face their fears, so to speak.

Anyways, all stereotypes aside, here are 10 things I wish non-CrossFit girls knew:

  1.  It’s totally fine and worth it to be and feel strong!

    How do you expect to be able to carry stuff around without getting winded and feel like you’re dying? Trust me, it’s a good thing.

  2. It’s not all bulky women and people you see in a Google search.

    Most people are just starting out and there are a lot of women joining at different phases in their life. Its not all jacked-up women.

  3. There are many different age groups here.

    In my box alone there’s women as young as 15 and women easily as old as 65! You’re never to old to join!

  4. Working out with the men is not intimidating.

    The men are very helpful and they want to help you. When I first started I was so unsure because some of the guys were pretty good looking! They turned out to be the most helpful of them all and helped me learn the movements correctly. Don’t turn away because they look intimidating!

  5. You do not have to wear skimpy clothes.

    Simple as that. Yes, there’s going to be a few girls that show up in spandex and a sports bra, but most of the women wear actual clothes, I promise.

  6. There is cardio involved.

    Its not all lifting heavy weights, you will get to sweat your life away. In the summer especially when you get to run forever!

  7. Think about that beach body.

    CrossFit is definitely one of the best ways to get that beach body. Its a lot of hard work but it will pay off.

  8. CrossFit is intended for busy women.

    Even though the workouts are an hour long, they are very respectful of keeping it in that timeframe so you can spend more time with your family or pets or whoever!

  9. You can bring your pets!

    This may differ between locations but it is possible! The box that I go to we have at least 2 dogs a workout come in and I can’t help but go over and pet them!

  10. You don’t have to be an expert in weightlifting or the movements.

    They reach you everything you need to know every class period so you don’t have to worry about not knowing the movements.

I could probably go on about all of the positives of joining, but this is ultimately your choice and no one is going to judge you if you don’t want to join!
